Weekend derailed
Feb. 26th, 2007 04:58 pmSaturday I brought some of my portable workbench setup over to Jon's and set up in the back yard overlooking the pond. Got to fiddle with a few things including my new power handpiece tool. This is way better than a flexshaft - runs smooth and true with nearly no vibration and I'm not fighting against the shaft for control.
Jon and his dad were wiring in the back bedroom (part of the Great Eternal Remodelling), when Jon's dad got The Phone Call. Grandma really was on her last breaths this time. They packed it in and went down to Laguna for a vigil. The really unpleasant kind. Poor old Grandma had gone into her final coma on Valentine's Day, and even before that everyone knew it was coming, but that still doesn't make it any easier. Jon and his brother stayed there with Dad and Grandma and Dad's sister for over 24 hours. Jon took a break and came back with his Mom and we all went out for noodles. Jon brought back noodles for his Dad. Grandma died around 10:15 PM. Rest in peace, Mary.
I had only met her once when she was still relatively coherent last summer, though even then she forgot who people were. She could not swallow and had just recently had a feeding tube installed. It was a lovely July day at her house *on* the beach. Gorgeous place. She was very cordial for having no idea who I was even after asking. This woman in her prime had been a Superior Court judge, and was the only woman in her class at Yale Law School. Quite a powerful person and personality in her day.
So here it is Monday afternoon and I've barely got anything done and now I'm going to fetch pizza. Hope to be back in full swing tomorrow. Answering email and all that. :-) I got the first pomander done and I hope to do a photography session tomorrow so as to get this up on the website.
