Ooh, did someone say roll? I could go for a sourdough roll. Back on the low-carb deal again as I try to fit back into my work pants.

But that's not what I ant to write about. I want to write a movie review, and run another jewelry idea past whomever might be reading.

Last night I went out with several insane individuals to a showing of Team America - World Police. I'm rather embarassed to admit how funny I found this movie. Yes, it's puppets, but they did some insanely funny things with puppets that just would not have been the same with people, or even with animation. This isn't South Park - for one thing, I could tell what the characters were saying. There is an actual plot, involving the heroic Team America puppets who have special talents in addition to being able to fly jets and pilot submarines in "combat". The Evil dictator Kim Jong-Il has a global terror network about to unleash hell on earth, and of course Our Heroes must stop him. There is a ton of profanity, including the soundtrack, and most of it is used to great effect. I have never laughed so hard at a sex scene in my life. My stomach hurt from laughing as I slunk out of the theater.

On a completely different subject, I have this idea for jewelry with leaf themes. The leaves are made of leather, so they are ultra-lightweight. I could do autumn leaves, or green ivy, or holly. I have a mental picture of earrings with a cascade of little leaves, and a necklace that looks like a garland. I hope to do a test run this weekend and get photos up on my site ASAP. Let me know if you think this is dopey or what.

I found out that a major craft show in San Diego in November still has booth space available. I hate doing shows, but the above idea might be a perfect fit for craft shows, where my expensive Sterling stuff might not sell. I dunno. If none of the job leads I have pan out by the time my gig is up, I may go for that.

That's all for today. Carry on.

A cascade of green leather leaves sounds interesting. Not sure how it would work without seeing it, I'm afraid.

I hope you'll be able to see it soon. It's high on my priority list.

I'd like to see it, too. Of course, since you're making it, it won't be dopey.

Sounds like it could be really pretty :)

I *have* heard that Team America is a good guilty pleasure. I guess I'm going to have to go see it now :)

It's crude and vulgar and definitely a guilty pleasure. Don't go on a day when laughing will make you cough.

for a ring or garland of laurel leaves, but you know that. Since you're making it, you could have fun with changes, ala what ...um...Andy Goldsworthy does; with the color changes. Even do black to brown to silver to white in leather and metal...

But a small branch of japanese maple leaves in copper on silver wire would be amazingly cool. Or red colored...

I would love to see the leather leaves! Duke Merowald had made a bunch for a mask (leather-mache, he was calling it) and they were great.
